Fish Bites: May 24th
Every Week in 2024, just in time for you to get ready for the weekend ahead, we here at ANGLERS Fly Shop bring you Fish Bites. Not another bloated, out-of-date fishing report, just a few of the most important, need-to-know updates on #BoiseAnglers favorite local fisheries.
Everything you need to know, nothing you don’t.
This Week:
Do you know how good it feels to be able to report GREAT news on our local fisheries. Let’s get right to it.
Owyhee River
The river’s down, and fishable, but we won’t know for certain if it’s going to fluctuate before settling for the summer for a few weeks. Streamers are absolutely the call. Getting your spot might be tough, but the fishing’s been hot and the fish are in great shape.
South Fork of the Boise River
Just over 2,000 CFS for the opener tomorrow! Check before you go, because there IS the possibility of it increasing before finally settling into its usual summer flow patter. We’d suggest drak, large attractor patterns and streamers.
Boise River through town
Nymphs and streamers. Wade carefully. Running around 1,500 CFS right now, but could fluctuate depending on the last pushes of water from above. Check before you go!
Silver Creek
Expect a busy weekend: for fish and anglers. Worth bringing everything from mice to Baetis.
Big Wood
Fishable, but higher flows than we’d prefer. If you’re in the area, streamers might be fruitful, but we wouldn’t make a special trip of it.
Stillwater
We’re on the lay side of the hot early lake season. Things are slowing down a bit but Horsetheif is still a safe bet, and Malheur Reservoir in Oregon is fishing right now as another option.
Bass
With warm temperatures this weekend, could REALLY heat up. Halverson, Crank Falls, Lowell. All worth a shot.
