Fish Bites: Sept. 12, 2024
Just in time for you to get ready for the weekend ahead, we here at ANGLERS Fly Shop bring you Fish Bites. Not another bloated, out-of-date fishing report, just a few of the most important, need-to-know updates on #BoiseAnglers favorite local fisheries.
Everything you need to know, nothing you don’t. Here we go:
SUMMARY
A few times each year (right now is one of them) when a LOT is changing all at onc, the fishing CAN be spectacular, but we cannot remind you enough that between fires, road closures, intermittent rain and fall spawning, rivers and fisheries can take on new faces each day.
Be prepared. Be flexible, be patient. That said, here’s what we’re seeing this week:
South Fork Boise River
The SF’s fishing well! An evening game, so be sure to stick round until twilight. Flows are likely to drop any day now. Pinks are the call during the day, flavs in the afternoon/evening.
Boise River In Town
It’s all about aggressive Browns in Town! It’s time to get out the 7-weight and start sending the streamers. Pop by to see a few of our favorites. Fish are beginning to stage so be on the lookout for redds and fish with a conservation ethic.
Owyhee River
Small midges and other smal bugs are the call on the “O.” It’s fishing ok, but, between spawn for Browns and the abundance of small fish, it’s officially “meh.” This change it weather could shake it all up, though.
Middle Fork of the Boise River, Upper South Fork
Fishing solid. With the cooling weather, these sections have turned on. Not likely to catch the fish of a lifetime, but, you’re likely to catch more than one :)
Big Wood
The Big Wood River Challenge: Catch 800 inches of fish in a day.
We’re just kidding, but, all jokes aside, there’s a true abundance of small-ish fish active in the Big Wood. A great time and place to hone in on a new technique and get feedback on presentations.
Silver Creek
A lot of fish. A lot of fishermen. No signs of Mahoganies yet, but the Callibaetis are going off. Two BIG thumbs up.
