Fish Bites: Aug. 22, 2024
Just in time for you to get ready for the weekend ahead, we here at ANGLERS Fly Shop bring you Fish Bites. Not another bloated, out-of-date fishing report, just a few of the most important, need-to-know updates on #BoiseAnglers favorite local fisheries.
Everything you need to know, nothing you don’t. Here we go:
South Fork Boise River
Flavs in the evening. Afternoon Pinks. We’re likely seeing the last of the higher flows so if that’s your jam, go get there while you can.
Boise River In Town
It’s all about aggressive Browns in Town! It’s time to get out the 7-weight and start sending the streamers. Pop by to see a few of our favorites.
Owyhee River
A few craneflies in the early AM. Worth trying (check out John’s new moose hair Crane Skater!) Terrestrials are the call during the heat of the day. This weekend’s weather COULD produce a good baetis hatch. Better to be safe than sorry!
High Mountain Lakes
It’s time! This is the time of year to beat the heat, break out the trail shoes, and hit your favorite high mountain lake. The fish generally aren’t picky so you don’t have to be either. Pack a lunch, make sure to stretch, and get up there!
Steelhead
3600 steelhead over Bonneville Dam on Tuesday. Well above the 10-year average. Doesn’t mean it’s a GOOD year, just better. Reminder: The 10-year average is abysmal. We’re still weeks away from primetime for the Salmon and Clearwater, but, we’re excited.
